Members of the public are invited to a fun day of making using the latest design technology such as laser cutters and 3D printers in a celebration of Birmingham’s creative manufacturing past, present and future. Organised by Black Country Atelier which has just moved its 3D workshops to the Jewellery Quarter.
Birmingham’s designers, inventors, artists and all those – young and old – with a curiosity for crafting and making are invited to a fun drop-in day showcasing the latest prototyping tools. As well as a 100 Watt laser cutter and a suite of 3D printers, the event will also bring togethertextiles artists, computer programmers and electronics whizzes from around the city to celebrate all manner of making and inventiveness.
People will be able to explore the exciting possibilities of 3D printing through customising their own models of classic cars, create badges from laser-cut leather and textiles, tinker with electronics and learn the basics of digital design. Activities and demonstrations will include vehicle design, jewellery making and interactive electronic devices.
Organised and hosted by Black Country Atelier (a 3D prototyping collaborative that has recently relocated to the city), the day will feature a number of Birmingham’s maker groups. Partners so far include Creative Open Workshops and fizzPOP.

Visitors who get bitten by the bug can sign up for a range of classes and workshops in everything from web design to learning to solder.
