Does the JQ need another secondary school?

Shortly before Christmas signs appeared on lampposts on Albion Street advertising the proposal to turn St George’s Court office building into a new secondary school; the fourth in the successful model of Perry Beeches.

Perry Beeches II on Newhall St was and is warmly welcomed by Jewellery Quarter residents and businesses, and has an important part to play in the life of the Quarter.

So the question is: does the Jewellery Quarter want another secondary school in the Jewellery Quarter when we don’t yet have a primary?  Would Perry Beeches IV be better located elsewhere – closer to its catchment area?

From the surveys undertaken, it is an aspiration of the Jewellery Quarter community to have a stable residential population and an increase in family-friendly housing and amenities including schools.  However the Quarter’s residential population is only 6000.

If I had known that a secondary school was being planned within one street away from where I lived, I would not have bought a house and moved to Tenby street. I am fervently against the opening of a new Perry beeches school here in the JQ.
