The ballot for a Business Improvement District in the JQ closed last Thursday and many people in the JQ waited eagerly for the result.  By midday Friday it was clear: there were 80% of eligible voters in favour of a BID, based on a creditable 45% turnout.  ’Eligible’ voters are those businesses in the JQ with a non-domestic rate charge of £10,000 a year or more.  The architects of the BID bid (sorry, couldn’t resist it) are the members of the Jewellery Quarter Development Trust and it’s founding organisations – including the JQNF.

The Chairman of the JQDT, David Mahoney said:

“This is a very positive day for businesses in the Quarter. With the establishment of the BID, we will now be able to deliver a whole range of enhancements to the area that will improve the experience of those who work and visit here and also unlock the Jewellery Quarter’s ability to attract more investment, employment and visitors.

“The resounding result in favour also demonstrates that businesses understand the real difference that a BID can make to an area.”
